What is AEDP?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is a model of therapy that prioritizes human relationships and includes the relationship with the therapist as integral to the therapy process.

The notion of the therapist as "a blank slate" is abandoned, instead the therapist is transparent and open, available to answer questions and offer feedback.   The therapist is interested in the client's experience of talking to the therapist and checks in about how the process feels.  The therapist welcomes discussion of any moments of mis-attunement as these are opportunities for deeper understanding, repair, and healing.

This means I will check in about what your experience of the therapy is - I encourage feedback and will double check to make sure I am truly understanding your perspective.

If there is a sense of comfort, security, and goodwill within the relationship, the client is able to talk more freely, feels heard, and feels less alone.  Together with the therapist, the client is able to process difficult emotions and relational experiences so that a new, healing experience can emerge.
